Top 5 Most Scenic Wedding Ceremony Sites in Estes Park
Estes Park is a dream destination for a mountain wedding, its sweeping vistas, rugged landscapes, and mountain town charm set the perfect stage for saying “I do”. Over the years, I have discovered a few venues that stand out not just for their beauty but for the way they frame your wedding ceremony with natural wonder. Here are my top five picks, ranked by scenic impact and overall appeal of the venue.
#5, The Landing at Estes Park
Number 5 is The Landing at Estes Park, a venue that provides a relaxed and charming environment with a few views of the Rockies, but it’s real charm is being right next to the Big Thompson River that runs through town. The ceremonies are held right down on the river and elk often walk through the venue during the wedding day. This venue is a hidden gem of Estes Park and is the closest venue to the main entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park.
#4, Della Terra
Della Terra Mountain Chateau is an elegant and dramatic venue that sits right at the Fall River Entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. While you don’t get the full mountains in the background, you do get a view of MacGregor Mountain directly behind the ceremony site. This dramatic backdrop is one of the best in Estes Park.
My only caveat with this venue is that it was bought by a national chain, Wedgewood Weddings in the beginning of 2025. Della Terra was a huge part of our Estes Park wedding community and the people that worked there were as well. I worked a wedding there in February of 2025 and all but 2 people were gone. I like working for Wedgewood Wedding venues and haven’t had problems with them, but Della Terra might be too high-end of a venue for them to manage. Time will tell.
#3, Wild Basin Lodge
Wild Basin Lodge is my favorite venue in Colorado. The lodge offers two different locations to get married at. The first location is Meadow Peak where most of my wedding ceremonies have been held. It offers striking views of the mountains with an open field directly behind the ceremony site. The caveats to this site are, from the lodge it’s a bit of a walk for your guests (although they will drive guests to the ceremony site), and the sun is usually right behind the mountains making it a bit difficult to capture the glory of the mountains. The second ceremony site is actually my favorite. It’s called River Run and is right next to the North St Vrain Creek, which is a raging river in Spring and early Summer. Either location has amazing backdrops, one open and mountainous (which does mean more exposed to the wind however) and the other is a cozy aspen lined amphitheater style location… and with its own soundtrack!
#2, YMCA of Estes Park
This one is a tricky venue for me. I LOVE the ceremony sites, especially Overlook Chapel. It has some of the best views for a ceremony site in Estes Park without contest, BUT… the rest of the wedding might be a disappointment. This article is about gorgeous mountain wedding ceremony sites however, so let’s stick to the plan.
Overlook Chapel is one of the best wedding ceremony sites that you can find. It has mountains surrounding it on all sides and you are outside in the mountains. So, that’s why it’s not number one. Mountains = Wind. The wind at this mountaintop venue site is insane, always. So that’s a factor. You have to take a confusing series of dirt roads with almost no signage to get to the ceremony site as well.
For reception, there are two choices, a tight room with cafeteria style buffet, which is fine, lots of places do that, but the food is not great. It’s made by kids in the back who would prefer staring at their phone over caring about any service. I’ve photographed 4 weddings here and every time the service has been really bad. The other option is to have your reception in a very large conference room which I prefer. While lacking charm it’s a large enough room for most weddings, has a dance floor, but… same food and service.
Are the views worth it? I’ll let you decide. If your food isn’t a priority and price is, this could be one of the best choices for you. It’s way cheaper than any other venue on this list.
#1, Black Canyon Inn, Boulders
Coming in at #1, which is no surprise if you’ve ever been there, is the Black Canyon Inn, Boulders, a venue that truly captures the essence of Estes Park’s dramatic landscape. Set against a backdrop of the rugged boulders of Lumpy Ridge, this venue offers a sophisticated yet earthy setting that is second to none. This venue has not only the best views, with a deck that looks straight out to the mountains, but some of the best staff, food, a great layout and fantastic customer service. And that’s why it’s #1. The ceremony site has glass sliders behind it, so even in the worst weather your guests will see the mountains behind you as you exchange vows.
The trick with this place is getting in there! If you can’t book a date there don’t worry, the Homestead area of Black Canyon Inn is almost as beautiful. The main difference is that the reception area is tighter and a bit more of a log cabin feel, and the Homestead is outside, but under a roof. Still the same great food, service and views though.
Honorable mention is The Estes Park Resort (photos below), the views are expansive and the mountains are there, but a bit farther away than the other ceremony sites mentioned here. It didn’t make the top 5 for me as a photographer because the city and power plant are in the view. However it does have Lake Estes in the foreground and I’ve had clients who love the view here over all the others I’ve mentioned.
The Stanley Hotel & Taharaa Mountain Lodge are not on this list solely because I haven’t photographed a wedding at either venue. I have eaten at Twin Owls Steakhouse though and the food is exceptional, one of my top recommends.
Also, I need to mention that if you REALLY want those mountain views hold your wedding ceremony in Rocky Mountain National Park, but that’s not a venue.
Each of these venues offers something unique, yet all share one thing in common, the magic of the mountains! From the hidden gem of The Landing at Estes Park, to the intimate, nature-infused charm of Wild Basin Lodge and finally the awe-inspiring grandeur of the Black Canyon Inn, Boulders, Estes Park delivers a backdrop that turns wedding photos into timeless works of art.
If you are dreaming of a wedding where both you and the landscape shine, Estes Park’s scenic venues offer the perfect stage. Just don’t forget to hire a great photographer too! Even Boulders at Black Canyon Inn’s backdrops do not show up unless you use lighting during the ceremony. Read this article to understand how I use lighting to make the mountains look as good as you.
