Flagstaff Mountain / Boulder Theater Wedding
This is the only couple I’ve ever had a “meet cute” with! I was photographing a Marshall Fire benefit at Boulder Theater on 2/4/22 and met Ben (the groom) in the crowd. He asked me for my card so that he could see the music photos afterwards. It was super packed in the theater, so I memorized his hat, pushed my way back to my camera bag and then reversed, to get the card back to him. I had a really nice conversation with him and came back to my husband saying how much I enjoyed talking to him. Two days later I was working at the 2022 annual Estes Park Wedding Show and Ben walks up to me, I immediately recognized the hat and reminded him of us meeting two days prior. He grabbed Janice and explained that I was the photographer who had given him the card on Friday and they booked me to photograph their wedding about a week later.
Their engagement session at Lake Isabelle was one of my favorites because I got to enjoy an easy hike with them and their dogs and got to know them as well. Then they changed their wedding location from Estes Park Resort to a reception at Boulder Theater, which seemed like fate too! I helped them find a good spot for their wedding ceremony at the Stone Shelter on Flagstaff Mountain just West of Boulder and we began planning the new wedding together.
If you are having a big old party for your wedding day, especially with multiple locations make sure to book my Aspen package like Janice and Ben did. They also booked the videographer I work with, so they had the Gretchen Troop Photography full media team of 4 people and everybody worked their butts off all day long. Katie, my assistant got in over 18,000 steps in for their wedding day! I started at Ben’s Mom & Dad’s home with Janice getting ready and my 2nd photographer went to the couple’s house for the guys getting ready. We all met up at the Stone Shelter so that Janice & Ben could have a First Look and Private Vows just below their wedding ceremony site.
The ceremony was a beautiful one, with their friend officiating and their dogs standing amongst their friends and family as they shared their public vows and celebrated the union of their love. We finished up just as a lightning storm started to creep in to the area and met everyone down the hill at Boulder Theater.
This was just a ridiculously fun party with the couple enjoying the iconic theater and walking across the stage to sign their marriage license in front of the many guests filling the theater. One of the best features of having their wedding at Boulder Theater was that the marquee up front had their names and wedding date on it… so we took a lot of fun photos of them and their friends and family in front of it. Such an amazing day ending with a bluegrass band performing for the guests. After 11 hours of photographing I went and got a drink on the Pearl Street Mall with my assistant at the end of the night and when we came back to our cars they were all still partying in front of the theater. A wonderful celebration of love!
