Estes Park is blessed with some amazing wedding venues and I’m not going to rate them, as they are all different, but Black Canyon Inn, The Boulders is definitely in the top. The views from the ceremony site are world class, the staff are fun, helpful and professional and the location in general just can’t be beat.
Nicole & Patrick found me at the Estes Park Wedding Show and booked my Blue Spruce Package + Engagement. For their engagement I headed down to their neck of the woods in Lake City to get engagement photos by a hidden waterfall. We had a great time in the area and enjoyed getting to know each other.
On their wedding day I got to meet their family and friends and get photos of Nicole’s transformation into a bride, by Bridal Glow Wedding Services. They chose not to do a First Look and see each other for the first time at the Ceremony.
The ceremony was officiated by a friend with lot’s of laughter and tears as they told their love story thus far. The large flower arrangements by Enchanted Florist perfectly framed the altar. After photographing the wedding party and family in front of one of the best views in the world we headed out for some couple photos in the mountains. The interior of Black Canyon Inn, The Boulders is stunning, but it’s location is in a hidden away corner of Estes Park that fewer people go to. It is an area I have great familiarity with. We got some classic mountain backdrop wedding photos and then went back to the venue for the Grand Entrance and dinner. Dinner at Black Canyon Inn is always SO good. They offered multiple delicious meats slow cooked to melt in your mouth, and an esquites that absolutely rocked.
After dinner the couple were toasted by their siblings, then had their first dance.They asked all of their friends and family to stand and surround them while they danced, which I thought was beautiful. I snuck outside to capture everyone as they stood around the couple dancing. After their parent first dances and the Money Dance we headed just outside the reception area to the waterfall where the “Harvest Supermoon” sat just behind them. At this point in the night I usually slip away for some ring photos, but I took extra time with the rings at this wedding because the groom made Nicole’s ring! He learned metallurgy just to craft her engagement ring!
For the last couple photos of the night, they went up to the deck where their ceremony was held and had a private dance. I stayed very far away on a high rock and took photos of them as they danced and held each other in the beautiful night. After getting some photos of Nicole alone in front of the main entrance and by the waterfall the couple rejoined the party and cut the cake that was made by Colorado Rose Cake. It was a stunning cake that echoed the theme of gold for this unique fall wedding.

Annual family photo shoot in Estes Park. Gretchen was part of the team that shot my wedding and she did a fabulous job with this shoot as well. I have 2 kids, 3 years old and 18 months, and she did a great job navigating their moods and keeping them engaged. I highly recommend her.

The moment I saw Gretchen's work, I knew she would be our photographer.. we waited until pretty close up to our (very small) wedding to decide to hire one, which added an additional layer of stress with everything coming up so quickly. We also live in Texas, our wedding was in Boulder, CO. Wow. Gretchen did an INCREDIBLE job photographing my huge extended family in Estes Park. We had 5 little ones, uncles, aunts, grandparents, and parents. Somehow she was able to take the most beautiful pictures with everyone looking at the camera. I love how natural the pictures came out. Everyone's personality came through. Gretchen made sure she got all of the picture combinations we wanted. She was also great at selecting the location to take the pictures.

I've worked with Gretchen multiple times now on different types of shoots and she is absolutely phenomenal. Gretchen did AMAZING job as our photographer!
