Cottonwood Package w/Pre-Wedding Couple Session:
This wedding was the first time I have photographed a wedding in New York and it was magical from beginning to end.
We arrived in Syracuse and stayed the night just outside of campus. My Mom, Dad, sister and myself all graduated from Syracuse University, so it was nice to be back. Then we went to our Air BnB right near Glenora Winery where the wedding was and arrived on Thursday for a Sunday wedding. This gave us time to visit Watkins Glen, which is about 15 minutes south of Glenora. I grew up going to the race track at Watkins Glen every summer for my Dad’s auto racing.
First thing Friday morning we went to Watkins Glen State Park for their Pre-Wedding Shoot. They didn’t wear their full wedding dresses… thank god because it was extremely muddy in there, but Ashley came up with some great outfits instead. Even though we started right as the park opened at 9am when the high was 30ºF we did not have the place to ourselves. The first photo was fairly relaxed, but the next two locations, especially “Rainbow Falls” was crazy full with people. We made quick work of it, my husband with the couple, light assisting and we talked over walkie-talkies. I created that long-exposure of the couple and the falls in real time… but I did remove a lot of people waiting to get through in editing!
Sunday was wedding day and we started at the couple’s lovely Air BnB with a few photos of them getting ready and then got the entire family together for family photos in the vineyard. As the couple was running back to their house from the vineyard I captured one of my favorite photos of the year, them running in the vineyard, it also won a Masterpiece Award from WPJA.
The ceremony was held on a lovely rolling hill in front of the vines with everyone exiting through bursting flowers. Ashley’s brother, Connor & Courtney’s brother, Dechlen were the flower boys, but they passed out liquor and… honestly no one was sure what else. The ceremony was short, but not short enough for Courtney. She said in her vows that nothing proved she loved Ashley more than standing in front of 90 people and declaring her love. She was hyperventilating the entire ceremony.
Once it was done though, it was all smiles. We got couple photos in the vineyards and under willow and apple trees and then headed in for the reception. Toasts were emotional with a lot of ribbing and tears. It can be a real struggle, especially on the East Coast for LGBTQ couples and family’s support means everything. When Ashley thanked her grandmother for her support, she burst into tears. I was eating dinner and quickly grabbed my camera. That photo won a WPJA Gold Masterpiece Award! I think the emotional moments are the most beautiful part of a wedding day.
After dinner and drinks Encore Entertainment ROCKED the dance floor. One of the best DJs I’ve worked with. The couple had cut-outs of their cats and dogs, glow sticks and lot’s of sing-a-longs. Then Ashley came in to say there was a rainbow! I sprinted outside to get the couple’s favorite photo of Courtney taking Ashley away on her shoulders. Courtney is a champion in Cross-Fit competitions so lifting her new bride up on her shoulder was very them. Courtney also said, “Ugh, this is just too gay!” when she saw the rainbow. Did I mention I adore these two? I also took advantage of the gorgeous sunset that followed to capture photos of guests as well.
They ended the day with an exit down the stairs and back to their amazing Air BnB.

We worked with Gretchen for our engagement shoot and our wedding. Not only is she incredibly organized and professional, working with her is downright FUN. We knew each time she flipped the tiny camera screen around to show us that our photos were looking great, but the final edited product is truly art.
Wow. Gretchen did an INCREDIBLE job photographing my huge extended family in Estes Park. We had 5 little ones, uncles, aunts, grandparents, and parents. Somehow she was able to take the most beautiful pictures with everyone looking at the camera. I love how natural the pictures came out. Everyone's personality came through. Gretchen made sure she got all of the picture combinations we wanted. She was also great at selecting the location to take the pictures.
I highly recommend her for anything - especially family photos. She was prompt and very easy to communicate with as well.

The moment I saw Gretchen's work, I knew she would be our photographer.. we waited until pretty close up to our (very small) wedding to decide to hire one, which added an additional layer of stress with everything coming up so quickly. We also live in Texas, our wedding was in Boulder, CO. She is so friendly and so professional, which made the process very smooth as she helped me identify what I wanted out of this experience, amidst all of the chaos.

Gretchen did AMAZING job as our photographer! We are from Texas and had no idea what our elopement day would look like but she gave us the run-through a week before and we couldn't be happier with our wedding day. We spend a whole evening at Rocky Mountain NP and her knowledge around the park and as an experienced photographer made our wedding so much more meaningful. Gretchen photographed our family during our family vacation in Fraser. She was very accommodating! I love the documentary photos that she took of us gathered in our airbnb and the group photos we took down the street with a beautiful mountain backdrop!! We were a large group (15 including four very young children!) but she captured some precious moments! I am very grateful for her skills and her efficiency!
