Wild Basin Lodge Fall Wedding | Katie & Jonathan

Blue Spruce + Video Package:

When a professional photographer hires you for their wedding, you know it’s time to bring your A-game. Jonathan, the groom, is a talented artist who creates stunning black-and-white landscapes. You can check out his work here: Jonathan Knight Photography. His passion for black-and-white photography and blurred motion inspired me to experiment more with these styles this season, and I’ve found myself leaning into black-and-white imagery in new ways because of his influence.

Their engagement session in Rocky Mountain National Park was unforgettable. With our Timed Entry Permit for the Bear Lake area, we had the serenity of Sprague Lake mostly to ourselves—and three moose! Two adult cows and a baby were wading in the lake, adding a true wilderness touch to the first photos. It’s one of the reasons I love working in RMNP, every session, even in the same location, is alway unique thanks to nature.

For their wedding, I had the pleasure of working at Wild Basin Lodge, my favorite venue. Katie’s hair and makeup were done by Wild & Whimsy, and while every bride looks stunning after the full treatment, Katie’s transformation was truly breathtaking. Once everyone was ready, my second photographer set up Jonathan at Copeland Lake in the Wild Basin area of RMNP for their first look. We made the short drive over with videographer Chris James (they chose the Blue Spruce + Video package) and captured all the powerful emotions of them seeing each other before they exchanged vows.

The fall colors provided a perfect backdrop for their ceremony in the Meadow on a crisp autumn day in the mountains. Afterward, we took a leisurely walk back from the ceremony site, stopping to snap photos along the way—including a visit with the beer llamas!

Back at the lodge, they signed their marriage license while enjoying appetizers from Wild Basin’s incredible catering team. One of my favorite moments of this wedding was when, after signing, Katie and Jonathan shook hands while locking eyes. It was such a sweet, playful reflection of their relationship.

Their reception was equally memorable. Emotional toasts from their friends brought laughter and tears, and Katie’s dad’s lighthearted roast added had the guests rolling in laughter. They had their first dance on the patio near River Run (highly recommend!), then opened the dance floor to celebrate the night away.

The photos and video below showcase the seamless collaboration of our team, with full coverage from multiple angles and in different mediums. It was an absolute joy to capture their day, and I’m so excited to share these highlights with you.
